Explore and Celebrate Who You Are
At Inner Balance we believe that to affirm our clients, we have to go further than just acceptance. We must celebrate and advocate for all sexual and gender expressions. We are committed to providing a space that all our clients feel welcome in, where they can explore themselves free from judgment. Exploring your identity in a heteronormative world can be invalidating, exhausting, and unsafe and you need to know your therapist will be nonjudgmental, supportive, and understanding.
The LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and other identities) community is more likely to experience mental health struggles than cisgender and heterosexual individuals because of stigma, discrimination, interpersonal stress, and other systemic barriers. Many of our clients feel shame from growing up in a world that is tailored to heterosexual and cisgender identities and never felt they had permission to explore their authentic selves. Many experienced religious trauma, oppression at school or work, and rejection from friends and family.
Discrimination, rejection from loved ones, challenging conversations, anxiety, depression, and learning how to navigate resources are just some of the experiences you might collaborate on with your therapist in counseling. You might also come to therapy with concerns that are not directly related to your LGBTQIA+ identity, but need to know your therapist is safe and affirming.
Reach out today to speak with a therapist who has experience and understanding in working with LGBTQIA+ individuals.
